The hostel is located in the CITY CENTRE, a short walk from Central Station. Most of the main tourist attractions are within walking distance.
Shelter City has single-sex rooms with 4 to 8 beds and single-sex dorms with 12 to 16 beds. The larger dorms are divided into smaller sections to provide the privacy you’d like. Our budget price includes breakfast, sheets, hot showers, a locker and all taxes. Starting at 16.50 euros, these are the best-value beds in town.

You will get so much MORE than just a good night’s sleep at an affordable price. The hostel not only provides excellent facilities, but also has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. All of our international staff speak English and will be pleased to help you. The hostel has a courtyard and a great cafe where you can get something to eat or drink, relax and meet people from all over the world, or use the Internet.
The LOCATION in the historical Nieuwmarkt area makes it easy to explore Amsterdam. The hostel is close to Central Station, Dam square, small China Town and the Red Light district.
Important info:
• The hostel is smoke-free, drug-free, alcohol-free (smoking cigarettes is allowed in the courtyard).
• Your room and bed will be available after 1.30pm (after cleaning).
• When you have booked more than one bed, we cannot guarantee that you will be sleeping together in the same room.
• There are separate rooms for men and women. If you book the wrong sex room we cannot guarantee your accommodation.
• No curfew or lock-out:
• The atmosphere of the hostel is best suited to those between 15 and 40 years old
• The usage of a locker is free, though you (often) need a padlock to lock it (you can take your own or buy one at reception).
• For the 4-8 person rooms there is a 10 euro deposit for the room key(s), which will be returned at check out when the key is returned
• If you want to cancel your reservation, e-mail or phone us before midnight (Amsterdam time) two days before your arrival date. If you cancel too late or do not arrive we will charge your credit card for one night's accommodation and cancel any other nights. These conditions also applie if the date of arrival has been changed by phone or email.
• Comparison with our sister hostel in Amsterdam, Shelter Jordan: Shelter City is bigger (176 beds), has a lot of character, and is located in a very lively part of the city centre.
• Multiple booking policy:
If the same name or credit card is used in multiple bookings for a total of more than 8 people on the same day then we will apply our group payment and cancellation conditions.
If the group booking is just for one night and is on a Friday, Saturday or one of the following dates around public holidays, then an extra charge of 5 euros will be made per bed booked: 23 May, 27/28/29/30 December 2010.
The last-minute internet special offers are only available on online bookings and for a limited time period.
Changes to existing bookings which include the special offer prices may result in new (higher) prices being applied to the previously discounted night(s).

Jasmin stayed here on 14th August 2010 The location of the hostel is very good if you want to be in the middle of the red light district. But also the security is good and the reception is open 24 hours which is very comfortable when you go out and come home late. The hostel is kind of very christian, bible lessons and evening prayers are offered but you don't have to visit them. The breakfast was good too and our room was surprisingly nice and clean. |

Cons: Please at least provide a free map, you can get them free elsewhere in Amsterdam!! Staff unknowledgable about Amsterdam and local area. Annoying computer system made us change rooms in the middle of our booking. |
