Property Description
As the original Flying Pig hostel, we can’t wait to welcome you again! We are located perfectly central in between the museum- and fashion district, the park and Leidseplein where the best concert-halls, clubs, bars and coffee shops are and most locals go out. You’ll get that real Amsterdam feel and are still close enough to the red light district, which is only a 15-minute walk.
This spring and summer you can enjoy Amsterdam’s famous green grass in the beautiful Vondelpark, right outside the Flying Pig Uptown, for drinks, smokes and picnics. Check out the free musical and cultural performances on the park stage or play games with your (new) friends on your bare feet.
The Pig has been world famous for its laidback atmosphere, a hostel bar that everyone keeps talking about and friendly helpful staff. We have a guest kitchen and bar with indoor smoking area, where you will meet lots of people. Free breakfast, linen and internet; one price covers all!
If you are in for some culture, the van Gogh museum and the Rijksmuseum (with the ‘Nachtwacht’) are just around the corner, same as the beautiful Concert Building and the ‘I Amsterdam’ letters. Do you want to explore the Red Light District, some historic sites or Chinatown? Just take a stroll, everything is within walking distance. Public transport is close by too.
But there’s always more: go shopping at one of the local markets (such as the Albert Cuijp in the Pijp area) or the ‘9 little streets’, drink a beer at the Amsterdam Heineken Museum or have a wild night out in the so-called pop temple the Paradiso, within crawling-home distance . You can borrow some free hostel skates and share a ‘smoke’, drink and a blanket with your (new made) friends on the green grass of the famous Vondelpark. Laugh your head off at one of the comedy clubs on the Leidseplein or visit other local areas of the city.

It is far from the main attractions of Amsterdam so you should take the tram. I had trouble to find the hostel under rain when i was coming from centraal. It's a 10-minute walk from just about everything you'd want to see as a tourist. willtron0246842 from USA stayed here on 25th July 2010 Not a bad hostel in the least. They've got a nice bar, a small smoke-friendly room, and it's located right off the most chic street in the city. One weak point is definitely the bathroom situation. On our floor there was one tiny bathroom. Literally a room the size of a toilet. My knees touched the door. Across the hall was a shower room. The shower wasn't bad, but everything is separate. I had to wait quite a while to use the bathroom and shower. | Male

genagohr stayed here on 22nd July 2010 The rooms had air conditioning! We also stayed in a dorm that had queen size bunks, so that was nice. The locker that I had with those beds was small though. It was a little noisy at night, but not terrible. Also, we did not have a toilet in the room and there was only one for the entire floor (though I think some of the other rooms had there own toilet) so it was sometimes difficult to get in. They also do not have free luggage storage as it states. They now have hall lockers that you pay for. Read Owner Comments |

Esther from Germany stayed here on 19th July 2010 The Flying Pig was lots of fun, great atmosphere! The only thing was that the water in some of the showers would not get warm and the toilets were dirty a lot of the times. Unfortunately the reading light in our bed wasn\'t working either and we told the staff about it. Even though they said they would fix it, nothing happened for the rest of the week. But other than that we had a great stay. It\'s a great location, near Leidseplein and a great park, and also has pretty good breakfast! Read Owner Comments | Female

mrice9097 from England stayed here on 18th July 2010 Just arrived back home from a weekend at the pig, was very pleased with everything, clean place, easy going and helpful staff. Negative comments were probably due to the fact most people havent had much experience of hostels, and need to take into account this is not a hotel. Would stay here again at the drop of a hat.
